| Where
To Start Shopping |
| A
good
place to start your shopping spree is the modern Langkawi Fair Shopping
Mall, consisting of 100 retail lots housed in a 2-storey
building. Its
anchor tenant, the Billion Department Store, stocks a wide selection of
items such as perfumes and fragrances, cosmetics, leather wear, sports
gear, ladies' accessories, confectionery, liquor and cigarettes The
other shopping outlets to check out in Kuah is the Langkawi Duty Free

establishments offer almost similar range of duty-free products. The
difference is probably in the pricing and staff friendliness. |

In Langkawi |
| The
progress
of this store has reflected the development of Langkawi itself. From a
small shop, it has transformed into a major three-storey supermarket
that is popular with locals and tourists alike. It has a reputation of
offering reasonable prices for its wide range of merchandise and is
endorsed by the Ministry of Domestic Trade Malaysia. Conveniently
located right in the centre of Kuah town (18km from International
Airport; 2km from ferry terminal) and Langkawi's shopping district,
Langkawi Parade will dazzle you with the widest choice of quality
merchandise at amazingly good prices and an ambience to make your
shopping axtra special and memorable. You can find all sorts of
products to meet your needs here from food and beverages to clothing,
stationery and household items. There is also ample parking space and
easy access to taxis. The store's friendly staff is always happy to be
of help. Don't miss this opportunity to discover Langkawi Parade. It's
the ultimate one-stop shopping experience. |
| Pekan
Kuah |
| Although
the varieties of brand names are limited, (you’ll have a
better
range in places like Kuala Lumpur and Penang) the shops and stores in
Kuah does stock a decent selection of items. The largest shopping mall
is the Langkawi Fair building which has some 100 retail lots. Other
shopping complexes include the Jetty Point Shopping Complex, Saga
Shopping Centre and Zone Shopping Paradise in Pantai Cenang. |
| Handicrafts |
| Not
to
be missed out are cultural souvenirs such as batik; a type of Malay
garment from the east coast, ornamental objects crafted from pewter,
crystals and traditional pottery. Besides Kuah, the airport in Padang
Masirat is another good place to check out as well as the popular
beaches such as Pantai Cenang. |
| Restrictions |
| There is a limit on the amount of
tax-free goods you can bring out. Foreign nationals visiting Malaysia
for 48 hours or less receive a duty exemption for the purchase of
souvenirs, gifts and items intended for personal use up to a limit of
RM500. There is a duty-free limit for certain types of items: booze (up
to one litre), tobacco (up to 225g, or 200 cigarettes), one pair of
leather footwear, new clothing (up to three pieces), as well as
cosmetics and personal hygiene items (not including powder or hair
